Job Description:
Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to engage and work with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health. The position requires helping individuals deal with addictions and substance abuse; family, parenting, and marital problems; suicide; stress management; problems with self-esteem; and issues associated with aging and mental or emotional health.
Position Duties
- Promote the Serpent River First Nations Vision and Mission Statements
- Maintain the level of professionalism expected by the Serpent River First Nation as outlined through the Policies and Procedures manuals
- Uphold the ethics of their positions, as it relates to the Social Worker Code of Ethics and the Social Service team's values and principles
- To assess and identify client needs for mental health services
- To work with the client in the identification of a plan of care
- As required, work with families of client's seeking services
- To make referrals for those individuals who are outside the scope of practice
- Ensure effective coordination of case management systems while ensuring protection of client information, as per policies
- To provide aftercare treatment plans for those individuals who have completed an addictions treatment program.
- To provide individual or group programming that addresses family violence (men/women support groups)
- Ensure effective coordination of case management systems while ensuring protection client information, as per policies.
- To work in cooperation with Social Service and Culture Team to facilitate program direction and goals
- As required, participate in case conferences with other service providers to ensure and effective outcome for the client
- Network with external agencies that have an impact or could enhance client care or general mental health programming
- Keep abreast of developments or trends in the mental health field
- To participate in regular clinical supervision meetings
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Social Service and Culture

Required Skills:
- University Degree or College Diploma in Social Services
- Minimum of two years' experience in the clinical counselling setting
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- Developed interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with the general public management and employees.
- Be able to work overtime to meet deadlines and/or emergency situations
- Proficiency with Excel, computer software and office equipment
- Ability to work as a team in a fast paced environment
- Must provide a clear CPIC
- Valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License with a clear driver's abstract.
- Knowledge of the 7 grandfather teachings
- Minimum of two years' experience in the clinical counselling setting
