Job Title: Student and Family Counsellor(s) with Indigenous Specialization
Job Location: Various schools across the board's jurisdiction (travel required)
Pay Rate / Hour: $77,048 - $86,668
Under the direction of the Mental Health Leader, the Student and Family Counsellor will function as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing support services to Indigenous students and families to foster balance in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellness. In addition, s/he will provide the necessary professional skills to assist self-identified Indigenous students in problem solving and conflict resolution in a safe and healthy manner to ensure student success. The successful candidate must be comfortable counselling virtually over a secure platform. They must be prepared to carry out duties in a face-to-face format, virtually, or using a combination of the two.

Required Skills:
REQUIREMENTS:
-Relevant graduate or undergraduate degree with Indigenous Specialization (e.g. BSW, MSW, Masters in Counselling)
-Registered member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
-Experience working and counselling virtually
-Experience working with children/youth experiencing social/emotional difficulties
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Ability to work independently
-Demonstrated ability to work with a multidisciplinary team
-Good computer skills, including word processing, communications software, Internet and e-mail
-Excellent discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
-Familiarity with the Ministry's mental health and addictions strategies
-Knowledge of the history of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada and experience supporting Indigenous learners
-Able to work with a diverse population, fusing Indigenous culture and traditional knowledge into support
-Familiarity with supporting students and families through an Indigenous holistic lens, to foster a strong sense of identity
-Able to practice from a trauma-informed approach
-Provide attendance and re-engagement support for Indigenous students
-Act as a point person for behaviour crisis-related responses when appropriate
-Collaborate to develop alternatives / programming for students who are on long-term suspension
-Facilitating the access of additional supports and services available from Indigenous communities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Preference will be given to candidates who identify as Indigenous, Métis or Inuit [please note that candidates who wish to qualify for preferential consideration must self-identify within their application for this position]
-Minimum of 3 years working experience in the field
-Knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabemowin
-Experience in providing counselling services from an evidence informed practice perspective
-Experience working with Indigenous youth at the elementary or secondary school level
