Job Description:
Job Title: Student and Family Counsellor - Intensive Support
Job Location: Various schools across the board's jurisdiction (travel required)
Pay Rate / Hour: $77,842 - $87,561
EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately (Non-Union, 12-months/year position)
Under the direction of the Mental Health Leader, the Student and Family Counsellor will function as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing support services to students and families through consultation/assessment, crisis intervention, counselling, attendance investigation, community liaison/networking, prevention programming, professional development and child/family advocacy. The Student and Family Counsellor will provide the necessary professional skills to assist students in problem solving and conflict resolution in a safe and healthy manner to ensure student success. The successful candidate must be comfortable counselling virtually over a secure platform. They must be prepared to carry out duties in a face-to-face format, virtually, or using a combination of the two. Occasional travel to North District areas of the board will be a requirement. Unique to this role, this counsellor will support students with high levels of need in a time limited capacity, by accepting high-priority referrals from the rest of the counselling team. This counsellor will also prioritize students whose guardians will benefit from enhanced support in meeting the student's needs at school.

Required Skills:
REQUIREMENTS:
-Relevant graduate or undergraduate degree (e.g. BSW, MSW, Master in Counselling, or related)
-Registered member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
-Minimum of 3 years working experience in the field
-Solid understanding of concurrent needs that would impact a student's overall wellbeing as well as learning differences such as Autism and intellectual disabilities
-Experience and comfort in working and counselling both face-to-face and virtually (over a secure platform)
-Experience working with children/youth experiencing social/emotional difficulties
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Ability to work independently
-Demonstrated ability to work with a multidisciplinary team
-Good computer skills, including MS office, virtual meeting software
-Excellent discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
-Familiarity with the Ministry's mental health and addictions strategies
-Familiarity with various evidence-based approaches is considered an asset
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Experience in providing counselling services from an evidence informed practice perspective
-Experience working with schools and/or learners at the elementary or secondary school level
-Knowledge of the history of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada and experience supporting Indigenous learners
