$17.36 to $30.99 per hour (Salary to be determined at the time of the hire and is based on the current academic level of the student.)

Who can apply: To be considered for employment under the student employment program, the student must
-Be enrolled at a recognized postsecondary institution (College, University, CEGEP, etc.) in a program leading to a diploma/degree in a field related to biological sciences, ecology, environmental sciences, or other fields closely related to natural science.
-Be registered as a post-secondary student in a recognized institution (prior to employment) or have recently graduated (<4 months since graduation). Students hired under a co-op program may be hired during their last semester of school.
-Proof of student status (full-time or part-time) or completed diploma/degree will be required.

Duties
The Resource Conservation Team at Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area (NMCA) is looking for a highly motivated student with a strong interest in environmental science and natural resource management.

This position will mainly be focused on conducting angler surveys which will include conversing with the public, working independently, and collecting data. The successful candidate will need to be able to work weekends and flexible hours.

Students will also have the opportunity to conduct various fieldwork, equipment inventory and maintenance, data entry, QA/QC, and year-end reporting. The work requires sound knowledge and application of scientific principles/procedures and specialized skills in the collection, analysis and evaluation of natural resource data. While the general scope of the work is provided by the supervisor, this position requires personal initiative and a certain level of judgment in dealing with changing field conditions and scheduling activities. Potential projects include vegetation, bird, fish, and amphibian surveys, as well as remote recorder servicing.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, be able to conduct physically demanding field work in wetlands, forest, rugged coastline and aquatic environments, and must be comfortable working on boats or in challenging terrain through a variety of weather conditions.

EDUCATION

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
-Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/ territorial holidays
-Willingness to work in variable weather conditions
-Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform/period costume and prescribed protective equipment
-Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certification
-Perform certain physical tasks as per job requirements (e.g. lifting minimum of 20 lbs / 10 kgs)
-Willingness to handle wildlife, including live and deceased fish
-Willingness to camp in the backcountry overnight
-Depending on the position, possession of a valid class G1, G2 or G driver's license

Obtain and maintain Reliability Status Clearance
Possession or willingness to obtain a valid Wilderness First Aid with CPR or equivalent
