PERMANENT PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
BED BASED ATTENDANT - Mental Health & Addictions
Salary: $25.00/hour
JOB SUMMARY
Within the face-paced environment of the bed-based service, Attendants are essential to providing attentive, compassionate services to people within residential programs that have a broad range of strengths and challenges.
Attendants are expected to have frequent, person-centered engagement with people staying in the bed-based residence to help them be safe, stable, address immediate needs, and work towards exiting the bed-based program towards positive destinations such as reuniting with family/friends or achieving independent housing.
POSITION DUTIES
- Complete intakes with new shelter guests as needed
- Greet and follow-up with existing guests
- Enter data and notes completely and in a timely fashion
- Complete referrals, if required, and share information on other services to help meet the needs of bed-based service guests
- Encourage guests to work on housing or other safe and appropriate alternatives to staying in the residence
- Help ensure the safety of all people in the building, including service users, volunteers, fellow staff and on-site visitors
- Whenever possible de-escalate situations that may result in conflict/violence
- Help ensure the service policies and rules are followed
- Conduct safety checks at designated times throughout the building interior (including common areas, sleeping area, bathrooms etc)
- Check in on people that use alcohol or other drugs to ensure they are still breathing and well, and respond to drug poisonings/overdoses, while also promoting and supporting harm reduction
- Answer the phone and respond to inquiries about services, residence access and community crisis calls

- Respond to medical emergencies, including providing First Aid/CPR, and mobilizing First Responders to attend when necessary
- Other duties as assigned

Required Skills:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education related to mental health and addictions preferred but other relevant education/experience will be considered.
- Knowledge of the respect for Anishnawbek history, practices, teachings, language, values, and beliefs is required for this position.
- The ability to understand and speak Ojibwe will be considered a definite asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, and electronic email.
- Local knowledge and understanding of Sagamok Anishnawbek's services and involvement with child welfare services will be considered an asset for this position
- Education related to mental health and addictions preferred but other relevant education/experience will be considered.
- Knowledge of the respect for Anishnawbek history, practices, teachings, language, values, and beliefs is required for this position.
- The ability to understand and speak Ojibwe will be considered a definite asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet, and electronic email.
- Local knowledge and understanding of Sagamok Anishnawbek's services and involvement with child welfare services will be considered an asset for this position
Requirements:
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Preference will be given to a member or resident of Sagamok Anishnawbek.
- Hold or willing to secure, CPR and First Aid Certificate.
- Valid driver's license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
- Able to work flexible hours at short notice may be required occasionally.
- Sign and comply with an annual Oath of Confidentiality.
- Must provide a Criminal Records Check prior to commencing employment.
- Incumbent is subject to six months' probation.
- Preference will be given to a member or resident of Sagamok Anishnawbek.
- Hold or willing to secure, CPR and First Aid Certificate.
- Valid driver's license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
- Able to work flexible hours at short notice may be required occasionally.
- Sign and comply with an annual Oath of Confidentiality.
