Job Title: Koognaasewin Worker
Job Location: First Nations along the Huron Shore
Pay Rate / Hour: To Be Negotiated
Mamaweswen, THE NORTH SHORE TRIBAL COUNCIL invites applications for a First Nation specific Koognaasewin Worker based out of one of the First Nations along the Huron Shore.
Purpose
The Koognaasewin First Nation Specific Worker will be responsible for a varied set of duties to support community capacity, specifically, the community level activity requirements for the development of the North Shore First Nations Koognaasewin Child Wellbeing law and system redesign initiative. Further, the employee's duties will focus on identifying and pursuing opportunities related to supporting community capacity development and the developmental work in the community in matters of policy and governance in accordance with the Koognaasewin strategic goals that are focused on Child Wellbeing jurisdiction. The First Nation Koognaasewin Worker will work as part of a team both in the First Nation and with the Koognaasewin Project.
Responsibilities
- Ensure alignment of project activities with the goals and priorities of the First Nation.
- Collaborate with an ad-hoc committee consisting of social services managers, council members, and community members to oversee project deliverables.
- Assist in the development of the Child Wellbeing department program policies and procedures as required.
- Assist in the development of a reimagined First Nation Child Wellbeing System
- Ensure that current information on jurisdictional goals is communicated transparently to community.
- Assist in the development of communication tools and materials that strengthen project understanding.
- Collaborate with consultants and committee members to estimate the resources required to operate the new child wellbeing agency, including human resources, capital resources, and space requirements.
- Negotiate external protocols with existing agencies, such as Nogdawindamin Family and Community Services, and develop internal protocols within the child wellbeing agency and First Nation Council.

Required Skills:
- Bachelor of Social Work degree or Community Development diploma / degree preferred.
- Community College Diploma in Social Services or Native Child Protection Worker diploma may be considered.
- Two (2) years direct experience in a social services agency,
- Knowledge of the Koognaasewin project.
- Respect for, sensitivity towards as well as knowledge and understanding of Anishnawbek culture, traditions, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Child Youth and Family Services Act.
- Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs, and traditions in relation to Child Protection
- Knowledge of external services and service agencies
- Knowledge of First Nation Communities, structures and local services available to Children and Family.
- Community College Diploma in Social Services or Native Child Protection Worker diploma may be considered.
- Two (2) years direct experience in a social services agency,
