PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORUNITY
ADDICTIONS COUNSELLOR - Community Wellness Dept.
Salary Range: $60 ,000.00 - $70,000.00

JOB SUMMARY
The Addictions Counsellor will work with children, youth and families on addiction related matters, and share responsibility for delivery of the day treatment and residential treatment programs. The Addictions Counsellor will assist in the development and implementation of a family-oriented treatment program to support families who have family members in treatment and recovery.

The Addictions Counsellor will also collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in the planning and implementation of a variety of community activities to promote physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness.

POSITION DUTIES
- Assist in the development and implementation of a family-oriented treatment program to support families who have a family member in treatment and recovery.
- Facilitate community-based day treatment program.
- Conduct risk and strength assessments of individuals, families and/or groups.
- Engage individual and/or family in the development of a wellness/treatment plan.
- Assist people served to identify, build and engage personal support networks.
- Monitor the involvement and progress of people served in relation to their work with other service providers.
- Monitor and evaluate progress and adapt wellness/treatment plan as required.
- Develop and implement an appropriate discharge plan.
- Provide crisis intervention counseling as required.
- Comply with relevant case management and administrative policies and procedures.
- Plan, facilitate and/or coordinate evidence-based addictions related primary and secondary prevention workshops, programs and/or presentations for children, youth and families, clinical groups, schools and/or the community using appropriate resources and technology (topics to include but not be limited to alcohol, drugs, tobacco and gambling).
- Develop, implement and/or coordinate a variety of addictions-related healing and recovery programs for various target groups, including but not limited to culturally based programs and activities; healing and learning circles and/or twelve step programs.
- Assist in the development of secondary prevention case management policies and procedures in collaboration with Community Wellness Management Team and other relevant partners.
- Participate in case reviews and/or conferences.
- Assist in the development and implementation of an alcohol and drug survey to establish a community benchmark and monitor outcomes.
- Develop activity, program and funding proposals for management approval.
- Participate in regular supervision, staff and corporate meetings as directed.

Required Skills:
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in social work, psychology or related human services program.
- Certificate in Addiction Counselling (ICADC) preferred or willingness to commit to credentialing process.
- Certification for Drug and Alcohol Assessment Tools through Centre for Addictions and Mental Health.
- Successful completion of a college or university research or evaluation course will be considered a definite asset.
- Minimum of three (3) years of addiction-specific clinical experience in a culturally competent practice.
- Member of, or willingness to register with, the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF).
- Knowledge of and respect for Anishnawbek history, practices, teachings, language, values and beliefs is of critical importance.
- Ability to understand and speak Ojibwe will be considered a definite asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet and email software/s, and use of on-line learning resources.
Requirements:
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Preference will be given to a member or resident of Sagamok Anishnawbek.
- Hold, or be willing to secure, CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Valid class G driver's license, be insurable and vehicle for on-the-job use, may be required to use this vehicle to transport clients/s.
- Provide a driver's abstract annually.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, after-hours rotate schedule.
- Secure and maintain certification in Privacy and Confidentiality.
- Sign and comply with an annual oath of confidentiality.
- Must provide a criminal record check prior to commencing employment.
- Incumbent is subject to six months' probation.
