Who We Are
The Ojibway's of Batchewana First Nation (BFN) are a progressive and vibrant Indigenous community situated on the north-eastern shore of Lake Superior adjacent to the City of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. The First Nation Is comprised of four land bases: Rankin, Goulais Bay, Obadjiwan, and Whitefish Island.

Batchewana First Nation has the charm of small-town life with access to urban areas and proximity to the international bridge. As part of the Association of Iroquois and Allied Indians and signatories to the Robinson Huron Treaty, Batchewana First Nation assert their sovereignty, jurisdiction, and expressions of nationhood through a multitude of approaches each and every day.

Summary of Position
The Accounts Payable Clerk is responsible for all accounts payable for the entire Band administration and all functions (unless designated elsewhere). This position is required to process all cheques and/or payments for BFN.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Process outgoing payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures
- Preform day to day financial transactions, including verifying classifying, data entry and filing
- Reconcile the accounts payable ledger to ensure that all bills and payment are accounted for and properly posted
- Verify and investigate discrepancies, if any, by reconciling vendor accounts and monthly vendors payments
- Prepare and enter monthly billings
- Liaison internally and externally regarding expenditures inquires
- Ordering of supplies including postage.

Required Skills:
Qualifications and Experience
- College diploma in finance/accounting.
OR
- At least 2-3 years of progressively responsible experience in finance/accounting.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thoroughly familiar with the federal and provincial legislation, regulations, and guidelines that are relevant to the funding and delivery of services on reserve.
- Knowledge about the cultures and the significant characteristics of the social structures of BFN.
- Familiar with the BFN Financial Management, Personnel, and applicable Human Services Policies.
- Computer literate with knowledge of Sage, Microsoft Office and other processing software.
- Diplomatic and flexible team player.
- Able to relate effectively.
- Ability to work effectively with the management and staff of other programs/agencies.
- Ability to effectively administer programs, policies, and procedures.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
