Job Description:
Position Objective:
The Land-Based Resource Teacher (LBRT) will be responsible to provide mentoring, resourcing, and expertise as the lead teacher in Land-Based Learning, responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and reporting on the success of land-based programming with Anishinaabe Aadziwin at its core. The LBRT will help ensure that, from the time learners come into this world until the time they transition out of it, Sagamok Education's students' learning pathways are inspired by Anishinaabe Aadziwin.

The LBRT works in conjunction with the larger FNSSP team and provides support to colleagues developing leadership and resources in numeracy, literacy, and Nishnaabemwin as a second language.

Responsibilities:
- Provide advice and support for best practice teaching methods in the classroom activities to increase the expectations of parents, RECEs, teachers, and the students themselves.
- Work with teachers and parents to target key skills and strategies for improving land-based competencies and opportunities
- Provide advice, support, and modelling to classroom teachers for building culturally-appropriate land-based programming and resources
- Organize and develop land-based material with teachers.
- Advise the FNSSP coordinator on culturally-appropriate practices for evaluating and reporting on land-based programming.
- Encourage family and community involvement in land-based activities
- Work with the Biidaaban and the Shki Waase-Aaban Special Education Teams in identifying land-based competencies as per school improvement plans as available.
- Plan and deliver daycare and classroom teachers training in completing land-based activities with learners
- Work in collaboration with the FNSSP Coordinator to plan professional development related to land-based learning.
- Provide written reports when requested or as necessary.
- Liaise with Elders and community knowledge keepers to ensure land-based programming is culturally appropriate and mediated by appropriate knowledge keepers.
- Provide assistance to other FNSSP resource teachers as needed, and provide leadership and coordination when other FNSSP resource teachers are assigned to assist in land-based projects

Required Skills:
- Valid Ontario College of Teachers certification/registration and QECO Registration
* For this position only, a combination of direct culturally-appropriate land-based teaching experience and demonstrated knowledge of Sagamok
Education policies is an acceptable alternative to OCT qualifications
* When OCT qualification is not met, the incumbent may be put on an education plan, at Sagamok Education's direction and expense, to obtain
additional qualifications over the course of several years, in exchange for a return-of-service agreement.
- Additional Qualifications (AQ) in Native as a Second Language, Special Education, or Outdoor Education are assets
- Good knowledge of Sagamok Policy and provincial Ministry curricula, or demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new policies quickly
- Provide copies of practice teaching reports and/or performance appraisals
- Knowledge and appreciation of Anishinabek Culture, Traditions, Language, and History
- Provide a cover letter, resume and 3 current work-related references
- Provide a current original vulnerable/criminal reference check (within the last 90 days) upon offer of employment.

- Secure and maintain certification in Privacy and Confidentiality.
- Incumbent is subject to three months' probation.
