8-week Canada Summer Jobs Placement (with opportunity for extension based on performance)

Child Care Algoma invites applications for the position of General Maintenance Assistant. The Maintenance Assistant will work to ensure the outdoor grounds are well maintained and safe, as well as general indoor maintenance and repairs as directed by the Manager of Finance.

We are currently hiring for 1 full-time position. The job tasks will be carried out at our various Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario sites. This is an 8-week placement through Canada Summer Jobs, with the opportunity for extension based on performance. The schedule is Monday-Friday daytime shifts.

Core Responsibilities:
- Assist in maintaining buildings in a hygienic, safe and presentable condition.
- Assist with the indoor and outdoor maintenance of buildings.
- Assist in the maintenance of the annex, utility room, and storage unit.
- Yard maintenance.
- Playground maintenance
- Toy and equipment repair.
- Assist with construction projects.
- Support and follow through with the Mission, Vision Statements and Values of Child Care Algoma.
- Maintain a professional approach when interacting with the parents, staff, visitors and School personnel where applicable.
- Be familiar and respond accordingly with health and safety and emergency procedures.

- Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old.
- Must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a valid Social Insurance Number.
- Must be enrolled and returning to secondary or post-secondary school in September.
- Experience operating a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
- Steel toed work boots are required (other safety equipment will be supplied as needed).
- Current Vulnerable Sector Police Check (or two reference letters if you are under 18 years of age).
- Health Assessment and Current Immunization.
- Possession of a vehicle, valid Ontario Driver's License and required insurance an asset
