Job Description:
Position: Heavy Equipment Operator - Summer & Winter Maintenance (Full Time Permanent)
Starting Range: $27.03-$29.80 (Pending Education & Experience)
Location: 5-Bay Garage/Echo Bay Patrol Yard
Report to: Highway Division Co-ordinator

Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, loading trucks and other machinery, hauling materials, and clearing snow. Furthermore, they may be responsible for other day to day works pertaining to heavy equipment workloads. The Heavy Equipment Operator functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Nation, and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

Duties
Operation of loaders, machinery, sanders, plows, loading trucks and other machinery as assigned
Lifting and repositioning heavy inventory and supplies
Moving material around the job site
Clearing debris and ensuring clear paths around the work site
Maintaining all equipment in safe operating condition following maintenance and service schedules (oil changes, filters, lubrications) according to service manual
Performs repair and replacement work as applicable, obtains approval for major service repairs
Reporting of any equipment and machinery malfunctions promptly and ensure the safety of the scene as per health and safety legislation
Maintaining Winter Maintenance such as operating snowplows and sander. Winging banks through snow removal on highway 17A and B as directed by the MTO contract.
Ensuring completion of daily logs or reporting documents
Performing other related duties as may be required and assigned

Required Skills:
Required grade 12 diploma or equivalent work experience.
Required two years related experience.
Valid class G licence.
\"DZ\" licence is required.
Related experience including knowledge of the operations and maintenance of heavy equipment, sanding and snow removal, construction,
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge to the First Nation cultural values and traditions;
Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations;
Ability to be consistent and display a positive/helpful attitude;
Willingness to accept changes in work practices and technology;
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines;
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team;
Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written;
Computer skills is an asset (including MS Word, Word Perfect, Excel, Internet, Email, Outlook);
Ability to report for work as scheduled;
Must undergo a criminal record check prior to employment (At Applicant's Expense)
