POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Public Works Labourer - Full-time, Seasonal (May-Nov)
WAGE RANGE: $20-$30/hr, based on experience and qualifications
RESPONSIBLE TO: Public Works Supervisor and Clerk
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
The Public Works Labourer is responsible for assisting in all aspects of road construction, infrastructure maintenance, and municipal operations, under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor. This role includes road maintenance, marina and park upkeep, asset monitoring, inventory management, and public notifications.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Public Works Labourer is responsible for maintaining municipal roads, parks, marina, pavilions, and other municipal assets.
Demonstrated and evidenced by:
-Road and Infrastructure Maintenance:
Maintaining municipal roads within budgetary requirements through:
-Patching, grading, surface treatment, brushing, tree removal, bridge and culvert maintenance, and dust control.
-Assisting with signage installation and maintenance following Book 7 Traffic Control regulations.
-Monitoring and reporting on road and asset conditions, including identifying hazards, damage, or necessary repairs (e.g., marina dockage issues, road conditions).
-Notifying the public of road work, interruptions, and infrastructure repairs.
Marina, Park, and Pavilion Maintenance:
-Maintaining the Gros Cap Marina, including routine inspections, minor repairs, and dock maintenance.
-Managing park and pavilion maintenance, including groundskeeping, garbage removal, and cleaning outhouses.
-Operating riding zero turn lawnmowers and landscaping equipment for municipal property maintenance.
-Ordering and managing inventory for public facilities (e.g., washroom supplies, signage, maintenance materials).
Equipment & Vehicle Operation:
-Operating and maintaining small municipal equipment (chainsaws, compactors, brush cutters, etc.).
-Driving a one-ton truck and safely towing trailers.
-Loading, unloading, and securing materials using proper strapping techniques.
-Using ladders and working at heights safely as required.
General Municipal Maintenance:
-General outdoor cleanup on municipal properties and roadways.
-Assisting in general equipment repairs and maintenance.
-Additional tasks as assigned by the Public Works Supervisor or Township Clerk
Outcomes:
-Municipal roads, parks, marina, and pavilions are maintained to a high standard.
-Public assets are monitored and reported on for safety and repair needs.
-Inventory levels are effectively managed to support municipal operations.
-All safety procedures are followed to ensure compliance.
-Public awareness of municipal work and interruptions is improved.

Required Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a valid driver's license and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:
-High School diploma preferred.
-Minimum six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Some proficiency in mechanical and technical skills.
-Strong organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
-Basic understanding of Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) policies affecting municipal public works.
-Valid Ontario Class G driver's license with a clean driver's abstract (DZ or AZ license is an asset).
-Experience with towing trailers and securing loads safely.
-Ability to operate a one-ton truck and small municipal equipment.
-Access to reliable personal transportation, as public transit is not available in Prince Township.
Certifications (Assets, or willingness to obtain through employer-provided training):
-Valid Driver's license
-Working at Heights Certification.
-Chainsaw Safety and Operation Certification.
-Book 7 Traffic Control for Road Work.
-Small Equipment Operation Training (brush cutters, compactors, riding lawnmowers, etc.).
-WHMIS
-First Aid & CPR.
Additional Requirements:
-Must provide a clear Criminal Records Check prior to employment.
-Must be able to wear and properly use all required safety equipment and personal protective gear.
Education and/or Experience:
