Job Description:
Position: Daycare Manager
Accountability: Education Director
Salary: $74,666 - $84,856
Employment Status: 2 years contract
Hours of Work: 34.5-35 hours
Preferences: MFN Band Members
Circulation Level: Level I
The Daycare Manager will perform the following duties:
- Plan and implement a program that reflects the vision and philosophy of Mississauga First Nation.
- Coordinate and assist the ECE's in the program development of the Children's Program with the Early Learning and Child Care curriculum.
- Ensure that adequate records are maintained and compiled for the reporting requirements to the Ministry of Education.
- The Day Care Manager is responsible for liaison with Ministry of Education, families, caregivers, appropriate faculty, sponsoring agencies, etc.
- Maintain provincial standards.
- Be knowledgeable, informed, and current on child care and Early Learning philosophies.
- Development and monitoring of the Day Care Centre's budget.
- Prepare purchase orders and other forms ensuring that appropriate procedures and approvals are followed.
- Promote a positive image of the Early Learning Child Care Program to the public.
- Maintain adequate liaison with the appropriate agencies, professional associations and other child cares.
- Ensure that records are kept on all children in the program.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to Personnel policies and procedures.
- Maintain level of job requirements by attending training, workshops, seminars, certified programs, and team meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned which are unplanned cooking, cleaning, open and close the Day Care and of a transient nature and are consistent with the above job summary and duties.
- Regularly contact, and act as a resource for, parents and caregivers.
- Encourage parental involvement in the Child Care Centre.
- Program Development, Planning and Implementation.
- Provide coverage for absent ECE's when required.
- Conduct staff meetings at least once a month and to support professional development.
- Provide support and direction to ECE's regarding child development.
- Perform annual appraisals for all Centre employees.
- Ensure the hiring process is handled in accordance with the MFN Personnel Policies and Procedures in conjunction with the HR Department.
- To be aware of, administer and comply with personnel policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the use of the Program as practicum by Early Learning and Child Care students.
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and to create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.

Required Skills:
The Daycare Manager will possess the following qualifications, skills, experiences, and attributes:
- Post Secondary Early Childhood Development Diploma.
- 1-3 years experience in the childcare profession.
- Must provide clear Vulnerable Reference Check from the Canadian Police Information Center (CPIC).
- Must have current First Aid and CPR - Infant/Child/ Adult certification.
- Provide immunization record.
- WHIMIS Certification.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, as it applies to the worker.
- Knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching techniques and clear understanding of culturally relevant programming.
- Knowledge and sensitive to cultural practices and traditions in the workplace; i.e. smudging.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and initiative.
- Creative problem solving skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations; strong organizational, time management skills.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently; ability to meet deadlines, financing and budgets, and work flexible hours.
- Effective verbal and communication skills; good time management skills; ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Be honest and trustworthy.
