PAYROLL/HR CLERK
Anticipated start date: Jan 6th 2024
Reports to: Controller
Supervisor responsibilities: None
Job type: Full Time
Starting Wage: $21.50 / hour
Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Payroll / HR Clerk to join our dynamic team at Prouse Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac Ltd. In this role, you will handle a variety of payroll and human resources duties, including processing payroll, maintaining employee records, and assisting with various HR functions. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of payroll processing, HR procedures, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Payroll Administration:
a.Process bi-weekly, semi-monthly, draws and bonuses for all dealership. employees, ensuring accuracy and timely distribution of wages.
b.Verify timekeeping data, including hours worked, overtime, and paid time off (PTO).
c. Maintain and update payroll records in compliance with applicable laws and dealership policies.
d.Prepare and submit payroll-related reports, including tax filings and deductions.
e.Calculate, prepare and report union and pension contributions.
2.HR support
a.Assist with new employee onboarding, including paperwork, setting up employee files, and ensuring compliance with employment
regulations.
b.Maintain and update employee records, including personal information, employment status, and benefits enrollment.
c. Support the administration of employee benefits programs.
d.Assist in preparing and maintaining personnel files, ensuring all documents are completed and in compliance with company policy.
e.Provide administration support for employee training and development program.
f. Assist in creating, implementing, and maintaining company policies and procedures.
g.Handle employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and HR policies in a professional and confidential manner.
3.Compliance and Reporting
a.Ensure compliance with federal and provincial laws and regulations, including wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and employment
standards.
b.Prepare and file required reports, such as tax forms, labour law posters, and workers compensation claims.
c. Support the Controller in audits, investigations, and employment-related inquiries.
Work Environment
-The position will primarily be office-based within the dealership, with occasional interaction with employees on the shop floor.

Required Skills:
-High school diploma or equivalent.
-Post secondary school in related field is an asset.
-Proven experience in a dealership or automotive environment is an asset.
-Foundational knowledge in Information Systems, preferably in accounting and HR related software.
-Familiar with HR best practices, employment laws and regulations.
-Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
-Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
-An ability to adapt to change and act as a Change Leader.
-Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
-Post secondary school in related field is an asset.
-Proven experience in a dealership or automotive environment is an asset.
