Job Description:
The Well is a Charity in Blind River Ontario, offering a Youth Center, Food Stability for the area, Community Events, and Programming for Children. We also have a Coffee Shop that functions as a fundraiser. We believe in building our community and offering new opportunities to children who have fewer opportunities, including Day Camps with Snacks, Games, Crafts, and Fun Bible Teaching. Our goal with our workers and volunteers is to create a community around purposeful giving. We have a fun working environment that welcomes our employees and volunteers to challenge themselves and learn new skills.

The position is 35 hours a week, at our location in Blind River. It is a paid 1-year internship, with the potential to continue pending performance and affordability.

Job Overview:
As a Child and Youth Worker, your primary focus will be connecting with and mentoring teens through drop-in hours, special events, and leadership training. You'll also help plan and promote various events and fundraisers during the day when the students aren't there. You will play a crucial role in supporting adolescents facing anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders.
Alongside your primary responsibilities, you'll be involved in other programs for all ages. For example, you'll help prepare and oversee children's Day Camps, administrative work, and various group games. You'll also have opportunities to lead, speak publicly, organize events, communicate with the local community, help with Food Stability and fundraising, and maintain the space's cleanliness.

Responsibilities:
- Learn community needs, and get to know the students who frequent The Well and its events.
- Socialize and form attachment bonds through regular interactions.
- Provide opportunities for youth to meet and provide a responsive, caring, and trained adult ear.
- When appropriate, counsel teens with strategies such as breathing techniques, visualization, cognitive behavioral techniques, etc. to support their mental well-being when coping with stress, anxiety, and other common challenges.
- Coach students toward their set goals, counseling them, and forming a proper mentoring relationship.
- Provide teens with help to connect to supports such as Algoma Family Services, Kids Help Phone, etc.
- Keep appropriate professional records; writing and filing paperwork.
- Plan and execute events and programs while training teens into leadership.
- Have the flexibility to provide support and leadership roles as needed.
- Leading a specialized program such as a Leadership in a Training class, or a skill you know, to support the ongoing professional development of employees/volunteers of The Well.
- Invest time in learning new techniques and skills for this position.

- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and Experience working with Children and Youth.
- Ability to connect with and mentor teens.
- Organizational and planning skills.
- Event planning experience is an asset.
- Customer service experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of customer service.
- Proficiency in computer programs such as Google Docs & Google Sheets.
- Ability to work in a team and supervise others.
- Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle is an asset
