Salary $26.11-32.39/hour, per Local 684 Collective Agreement
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Access Worker provides a welcoming environment that is accessible by telephone, by walk-in or by electronic means, whereby the Access Worker assists people by providing information on mental health/illness and addictions and what mental health and addictions services are available across the district, as well as helping to link people to the appropriate level of service. The Access Worker carries out these responsibilities in accordance
with the mission, vision, and values of CMHA Algoma, relevant legislation and regulations and organizational policies, to promote the delivery of efficient and high-quality services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Central Point of Access/Information, Screening, Referral/Brief Service, Community Resources/Information, General Organizational Responsibilities
- Facilitating effective navigation of the mental health and addiction system for those who require assistance in locating appropriate services
- Making information on community mental health and addiction services/system widely available to clients/families, primary care providers and service providers
- Engaging with clients electronically, by telephone and on a walk-in basis

Required Skills:
Education, Certification & Experience
- Minimum two-year diploma in a Human Services related field
- Current registration with OCSWSSW or a regulated body under the Regulated Health Professions Act, if eligible
- Mandatory certification in ASIST, and First Aid/CPR (or willing to obtain on own within 3 months)
- Minimum one-year experience in the fields of mental health and addictions with an emphasis in community-based services
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work in partnership with clients
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of mental health and addictions services
- Extensive knowledge of standardized screening and assessment tools
- Extensive knowledge of community services, supports and resources
- Ability to apply Recovery principles and empowerment-orientated philosophies and practices in work with clients
- Ability to demonstrate diplomacy and negotiation skills in client and system advocacy
- Ability to make sound clinical judgments
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability and flexibility to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent computer skills and competency in software applications used by the agency
- Demonstrated ability to engage in reasonable self-care strategies that incorporate balancing work/life responsibilities
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills

Requirements:
- Acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check upon hire and to be maintained throughout employment
- Ability to provide effective client services in English and French, is preferred
- Able to meet the essential physical requirements of the position including ability to move, ascend, descend and position self from floor and back up for prolong periods and may require heavy lifting, reaching and repetitive bending
