Position: Niigaaniin Case Worker
Accountability: Niigaaniin Director
Salary: $51,034 - $57,990
Employment Status: 2 Years Contract
Hours of Work: 32 hrs
Preferences: MFN Band Members
Circulation Level: Level I

The Niigaaniin Case Worker will perform the following duties:
- Knowledge of the range of relevant community based and external programs and services available to community members.
- Knowledge of the range of both contemporary and traditional methods of intervention, assessment, counselling, support, training, and healing that are effective in promoting community, family and individual development and well-being.
- Assists in monitoring the need for financial and development assistance and opportunity development through interaction with community members and through information sharing/ liaison with staff of related community-based programs/ services, and relevant other native and non native agencies working with community members.
- Will be thoroughly familiar with the relevant Tribal, First Nation, federal and provincial policies and legislation, regulations and/or guidelines that are relevant to the funding and guidelines that are relevant to the funding and delivery of Niigaaniin program services.
- Acts as a role model to other staff and community members in the day-to-day execution of responsibilities of the position.
- Reviews relevant intake and subsequently submitted change of status information (financial and developmental assistance applicants, hostel resident applicants, applicants for homemakers services, applicants for funeral / burial assistance, temporary child care assistance applicants, applicants for emergency assistance etc.).
- Seeks/ obtains additional information as may be required in order to assess initial and continuing eligibility and entitlement for financial and developmental assistance.
- Relate effectively to program management and colleagues as a diplomatic and flexible team player.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to Personnel policies and procedures.
- Will manage several requests and situations at one time. Stress maybe caused due to complete tasks to meet tight deadlines.
- Maintains a log covering all direct and indirect services provided.
- Assists with the monitoring and evaluation of services offered; Assists with the preparation of reports as required, and a midyear and year-end review of services delivery against program service plan.
- Recommend payment of financial assistance entitlements and client participation costs offsets to their Immediate Supervisor.
- Recommend payment of fees and /or the transfer of entitlements to approved employment/ self-employment development agencies sponsor and/or transfer project proponents to their immediate supervisor
- Accept direction in the preparation of employment assistance reimbursement claims, are sent to the Regional Office.
- Performs other duties as assigned which are unplanned and of a transient nature and are consistent with the above job summary and duties.

Required Skills:
The Niigaaniin Case Worker will possess the following qualifications, skills, experiences, and attributes:
- Post-secondary Diploma in Social Services or relevant and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Maintain the level of job requirements by attending training, workshops, seminars, certified programs, and team meetings.
- Experience working with a First Nation or Aboriginal Organization preferred.
- Must provide clear Vulnerable Reference Check from the Canadian Police Information Center (CPIC).
- An effective leader.
- Ability to handle stressful situations; strong organizational, time management skills.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently; ability to meet deadlines and work flexible hours.
- Effective verbal and communication skills; good time management skills; ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing/negotiation.
- Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Knowledge and sensitive to cultural practices and traditions in the workplace, i.e., smudging.
- Possess a calm demeanor in responding to customers.
- Demonstrate sound work ethics.
- Be honest and trustworthy.
- Be respectful and flexible.
