COMMUNITY LIVING ALGOMA is looking for an Employment Advisor in East Algoma!

The Organization
Community Living Algoma is dedicated to supporting people with developmental disabilities so they can live full lives and be inclusive members of their own communities. They serve that mission by offering a broad range of personalized supports and services, closely aligned with the individual goals of supported people including choice of where they want to live, learn, work and enjoy their leisure time.

CLA was founded in 1954 by parents of children with developmental disabilities who were concerned about the future teaching and inclusion of their children. We have continued that focus on supporting people to enjoy life in the community for over sixty years.

Operating residential homes, Community based homes, Supported Independent Living, Community participation supports, Employment, Urgent Response and Volunteer Services, the agency provides support to over 500 individuals and families each year.

DUTIES:
- Provide employment support to adults with an intellectual disability. Including assessments, employment readiness training and Job coaching and follow up.
- Recruit community employment by making cold calls to employers, following-up and closing, job carving, creating innovative marketing materials to be used for various audiences, promoting the benefits of the program through individual meetings and group presentations.
- Negotiate terms with employers in particular contractual situation.
- Promote and assist in the development of natural supports within the work environment.
- Promote the department to the public via media, schools, group presentations, conferences, etc.
- Actively participate in outside agency committee work such as Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, trade shows etc.
- Work within the guidelines stipulated by various legislation, ie. Employment Standards Act, ODSP Employment etc.
- Assist with the development and implementation of the Summer Supported Employment program and other grant programs.
- Work in a variety of settings and working conditions, which may vary from office settings to environments with varying temperatures, levels of cleanliness etc.
- Participate with support plans in the area of employment and ensure follow-up is complete as required.

Required Skills:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A degree or diploma in Business, Marketing/ Sales and/or related education or experience.
- Experience networking and the existence of a strong business network.
- Ability to work independently with volunteers, agencies, businesses, industries, families and advocates required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Ability to achieve employment targets by being results oriented.
- Ability to work varied hours and adaptability to various working conditions and locations in accordance with supports required by individual.
- Experience in sales and securing paid employment opportunities, previous employment coaching experience, knowledge of community resources, labour market and employment services to individuals facing employment barriers is considered an asset.
- Experience in supporting adults who have an intellectual disability an asset.
- A G license, clear driving abstract and vehicle to provide transportation for self and others is required.
- Must be available to deal with emergency situations outside regular working hours.
Requirements:
RATE OF PAY & HOURS OF WORK AVAILABLE
- $31.76 Hourly
- Required to work Day, Afternoon, and flexible schedule.
