GL-MAN-03 - Term position from Dec 2024 - March 2025
$27.30 to $29.69 per hour
Duties
Provides essential services in general maintenance, repairs, and labour; supporting the upkeep and maintenance of grounds, roads, equipment and facilities as well as contributing to construction projects, installations and other important maintenance tasks at our national historic sites.
Work environment
At the Sault Ste. Marie Canal, nestled beneath the International Bridge, you'll immerse yourself in a piece of history. Built in 1895 to bypass St. Mary's River rapids, the canal boasts the world's longest lock and was the first to run on electricity. Spend your days outdoors amidst historic sandstone buildings, picturesque grounds, and the captivating Emergency Swing Dam. Become an integral part of this iconic site, drawing in tourists and locals alike.
Head east of Sault Ste. Marie to Fort St. Joseph, situated along Lake Huron's north shore. Immerse yourself in the vibrant history of this outpost from 1796 to the War of 1812. You'll be surrounded by the ruins of the fort, expansive nature trails, picnic grounds, and breathtaking vistas. Engage with the outdoors while contributing to the preservation of a vital military presence, Indigenous alliances, and the fur trade legacy.

EDUCATION
Applicant must have Secondary School Diploma
Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE
- Experience in performing general labour tasks;
- Experience in safe and efficient use of manual and power tools and equipment;
- Significant experience in both interior and exterior building maintenance and repair;
- Experience in using and maintaining grounds equipment;
- Experience in applying applicable health and safety procedures.
\"Significant experience\" is defined as being one in which the person's primary responsibilities include these duties and refers to the breadth and depth as well as complexity of tasks that could be expected to have been obtained by carrying out the functions over at least twenty-four (24) months)
Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance - Obtain & maintain Reliability Security Status
- Possess and maintain valid Class G driver's license;
- Complete a pre-hire medical if selected;
- Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment;
- Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain and weather conditions;
- Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
- Willingness and ability to perform physically demanding manual labour;
- Must live within 100km from Sault Ste. Marie for call-out purposes.
