Position: Administrative/Activities Assistant
Wage: $18.87 - $20.76 (Pending Education & Experience)
Location: Recreation Centre
Responsible To: Recreation Coordinator

Position Summary
The Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing administrative duties and assisting the Assistant Recreation Activities Programmer and the Coordinator with researching, planning, and implementing recreational activities at the Garden River Recreation Centre and the Sports and Leisure Program, (SLP).The Administrative Assistant functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission and Vision of the Garden River First Nation and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

Duties
- Assisting the Manager and Coordinator with preparation of budgets;
- Assisting with administering various contracts and rental agreements;
- Assisting with preparation of monthly and program activity reports;
- Informs and updates community and recreation members of on-going and up-coming events through various advertising;
- Assists with the organization and maintenance of activity log books;
- Liaising with other recreational facilities and facilitators for promotion purposes;
- Promote a safe work environment;
- Communicate all matters of importance with appropriate members of the organization in an accurate and timely fashion;
- Participate in meetings;
- Effectively communicate and build external relationships with organizations and community;
- Performing other related duties as may be required and assigned

Required Skills:
- Requires one-year college diploma in Office Administration, Business, and/or other related program;
- Required six months related experience;
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge to the First Nation cultural values and traditions;
- Ability to be consistent and display a positive/helpful attitude;
- Flexibility required to keep pace with an ever-changing environment;
- Stamina, sensitivity, and strong negotiation and advocacy skills;
- Willingness to accept changes in work practices and technology;
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team;
- Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, interpersonal and communications skills;
- Excellent computer skills (including MS Word, Word Perfect, Excel, Internet, Email, Outlook)
- Ability to report to work as scheduled
- Ability to attend work regularly
- Must undergo a criminal record check prior to employment (At Applicant Expense)
