Senior Fisheries Biologist (Permanent, Full-time)

The Anishinabek/Ontario Fisheries Resource Centre (A/OFRC) is a not-for-profit corporation established by agreement between the Grand Council Chief of the Anishinabek Nation and the Ontario Minister of Natural Resources to further the knowledge and conservation of fisheries resources of interest to member First Nations and Ontario's stakeholders.

The A/OFRC is offering a job opportunity to a fisheries biologist with demonstrated experience. The successful candidate will use their skills in project design, data analysis, technical expertise and reporting of fisheries data. This full-time position will be based out of the Centre's office in North Bay, Ontario but will involve travel throughout the Province of Ontario.

The position is open immediately and will remain open until a suitable candidate is selected.

Annual Salary - $73,000 - $90,000 based on experience (37.5 hour work week).

Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar, may occur within the work setting.

Required Skills:
The ideal candidate will have:
Completed graduate studies (MSc/PhD) within fisheries science or related discipline from a recognized university (or equivalent work experience)
Demonstrated knowledge in field project design and analyzing and presenting fisheries assessment and fish population data
5+ years work experience completing fisheries assessment field projects, preferably including roles as a project and field crew leader
Knowledge of or desire to learn about Anishinabek culture
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing
Valid MTO driver's license and a clean driving record
Knowledge of and experience with data systems, including data archives would be an asset
Experience with GIS and possession of SVOP and MED A3 certificates would be assets
