Job Description:
JOB CODE: Plant 2024-17
LOCATION: Position is based out of Sault Ste. Marie but will be assigned to support schools in the North and East, so extensive travel will be required. (North - Hornepayne, White River, Wawa & Chapleau
East - Espanola, Massey, Elliot Lake & Blind River)
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours/week, 12 months/year
RATE OF PAY: $35.54/hour
EFFECTIVE DATE: September 2024
The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board requires a skilled carpenter for the construction, renovation and maintenance of interior/exterior wood fitments for schools and facilities; installation and maintenance of hollow metal doors, frames, and architectural hardware; installation or repair of drywall and acoustic tiles; the installation of specific items, such as bookcases, counters; and a wide range of other duties which are related to general building maintenance.
DUTIES:
-Builds, repairs, refurbishes, and modifies mill work/interior and exterior wood fitments of schools and board facilities.
-Removes, repairs, alters, erects and rebuilds walls, acoustic tiles, portable skirting, decks including framing, drywall, taping, sanding, and painting.
-Builds and installs stairs and railings and installs plywood, cladding, and sheathing.
-Prepares surfaces, paints, stains, and refinishes.
-Removes, repairs and replaces damaged flooring and baseboards.
-Investigates leaks-roof, plumbing, building envelope-as well electrical and HVAC problems.
-Installs, repairs and replaces doors, frames, hardware, locks, magnetic and electronic access control components and all associated hardware in board facilities.
-Performs minor glazing and caulking, and replaces glass and all associated framing.
-Installs school accessories and fixtures.
-Receives and tracks work orders and reads drawings and blueprints.
-May be assigned other duties within the job description.

Required Skills:
-Completion of journeyperson carpentry certificate.
-Two years of previous job experience, as a certified journeyman carpenter, in institutional carpentry and workload assignment.
-Completed apprenticeship which meets inter-provincial standards program requirements.
-A working knowledge of reading blue prints and shop drawings.
-Familiarity with the set-up and use of related machinery.
-Experience in locksmithing, plumbing, flooring, HVAC systems and electrical systems is an asset.
-Physical capability to perform all aspects of the job.
-Valid \"G\" class driver's licence.
-Two years of previous job experience, as a certified journeyman carpenter, in institutional carpentry and workload assignment.
-Completed apprenticeship which meets inter-provincial standards program requirements.
-A working knowledge of reading blue prints and shop drawings.
-Familiarity with the set-up and use of related machinery.
-Experience in locksmithing, plumbing, flooring, HVAC systems and electrical systems is an asset.
