EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
GREENHOUSE TECHNICIANS (2)
Contract until March 29, 2025

JOB SUMMARY:
The Greenhouse Technician will be responsible for carrying out the work deliverables in planning, coaching, and researching the development of agriculture opportunities. This will include planning strategies for interested community members.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Gain knowledge and expertise within the Agriculture Industry.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings
- Will be responsible for the development of the Greenhouse, Community Garden, Medicinal Garden and working with the Foodbank to ensure adequate supply of fresh fruit and vegetables.
- Coordinate community information sessions and training opportunities in agriculture.
- Provide advisory services in the development of business opportunity plans and implementation strategies for interested community members
- Develop supportive networks, which will consist of: Federal and provincial agriculture agents, develop rapport with suppliers, farmers, farming associations as well funding agencies such as Waubetek, IAPO, RAIN
- Find possible funding agencies that could support Sagamok's community members who are interested in pursuing agriculture

The Greenhouse Technician will have the following main duties;
- Prepare soil; plant bulbs, seeds and cuttings; graft and bud plants; and transplant seedlings and rooted cuttings
- Monitor plants for healthy growth and potential weed, insect, disease, and fertilizer problems in greenhouse crops
- Spray trees, shrubs, flowers and plants to prevent disease and pests
- Position and regulate greenhouse and outdoor irrigation systems to water plants and fields
- Dig, cut and transplant trees, shrubs, flowers and plants and prepare them for sale
- Provide information to customers on gardening, the use of various garden tools and products and the care of trees, shrubs, flowers, plants and lawns
- May operate tractors and other machinery and equipment to fertilize, cultivate, harvest and spray fields and plants
- Maintain inventory and order materials as required
- Clean working areas.

Required Skills:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in agriculture.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Anishnawbe language and culture will be considered a definite asset..
