The Direct Support Professional provides critical services to the people supported by Karis Disability Services and works to ensure that people belong to communities in which their God-given gifts are valued and respected. The Direct Support Professional seeks to promote Karis Disability Services' Service Principles by enhancing relationships, promoting citizenship, valuing people's gifts, recognizing self-determination, encouraging growth and development, and recognizing the need for holistic supports in a manner that considers each person's intrinsic value.

They assist with activities of daily living and promotes life development as outlined in person centered plans. This is done through collaboration with their team, families, advocates, friends, and community partners. The Direct Support Professional completes administrative duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

The Direct Support Professional helps build communities of belonging in accordance to the core Values of Karis Disability Services; Valuing People, Fostering Belonging, Serving Others and Respecting Gifts. They respect and upholds the Values, Vision and Mission of Karis Disability Services, demonstrating the highest standards of courtesy, respect and integrity in their dealings with persons supported, other employees and both internal and external stakeholders.

Guaranteed 24 hours per week with call-ins as needed

DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

Direct Support Professional (DSP) employees work with people who experience developmental disabilities as they live in their homes and communities. This position assists people in their daily life, working with them and their connections to ensure that they can live fully in the community. Direct Support Professionals recognize people's rights to direct their life, understanding that each person has unique gifts and needs, and they support people to learn skills for their own growth and development.

Required Skills:
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Access to reliable transportation

Education:
- Secondary School (required)

Experience:
- Developmental Services: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:
- Class G Licence (required)
Requirements:
Preferred:
- 3-6 Months Experience (volunteer or employment)
- Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Worker, or post-secondary education in a related field
- Strong communication skills in English as well as French is an asset
