Job Description:
Restorative Care Aide
As a valued member of the team, the Restorative Care Aide demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.
Assist in planning, implementation, and evaluation of Restorative Care Programs geared to maximizing the functional independence of the resident and optimizing each resident's potential.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in assessing or monitoring, planning, implementing, and evaluating a wide range of services related to Restorative Care Programs including but not limited to Dining Program, Walking Program, Wheelchair Mobility Program, ADLs, ROM, Strengthening, Fine Motor,1:1, small group fitness, based on resident needs.
- Assists with assessments of residents; establishing resident goals and interventions based on assessments and needs.
- Complete Documentation related to Restorative Care, including but not limited to assessment, daily flow sheets, progress notes, input into care plans, evaluations and discharge.
- Participate in the home's Continuous Quality Improvement approach to care including but not limited to completing audits and ongoing program evaluation.
- Ensure effective communication with all residents, family members, team members, and volunteers.
- Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team, including but not limited to the resident, family, nursing, dietary, environmental, activation, PT, OT, and vendors to ensure interventions to promote resident independence are implemented.
- Assist in processes related to Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and therapy supply and service providers including but not limited to seating, assistive devices and mobility aids.
- Participate in Restorative Care Committee and Interdisciplinary Care Conferences when required.
- Provide educational opportunities related to Restorative Care as needed.
- Comply with all organization policies, procedures and practices.
- Maintain awareness of changes within the profession and seek continuing educational opportunities.
- Work in accordance with the organization's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Perform other duties as required.
- WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Interaction with male and female residents of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds;
- Combination of natural light and fluorescent lighting;
- Exposure to the elements (external building and property);
- Exposure to variable temperatures both hot and cold;
- Lifting alone and with assistance;
- Pushing/pulling content;
- Crouching, kneeling, stooping/bending for short periods of time;
- Walking and climbing stairs frequently;
- Standing for long periods of time;
- Engagement and/or exposure to various therapy programs focused on providing residents with the highest quality of life in our Homes including but not limited to pet therapy, spiritual events and musical therapy

Required Skills:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in a Restorative Care Setting.
- Experience in program planning, documentation, and evaluation is considered an asset.
- Sound working knowledge and understanding of the elderly.
- Must demonstrate, initiative, and the ability to work independently and or in a team setting.
- Effective verbal and written English communication skills are required.
EDUCATION:
- Degree in Kinesiology and experience in Restorative Care or
- Degree/Diploma in Recreation/Activation and Certificate in Restorative Care from a recognized educational institution or
- Completion of a Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy Assistant Program or
- PSW Certificate and Certificate in Restorative Care from a recognized educational institution.
- Experience working in a Restorative Care Setting.
- Experience in program planning, documentation, and evaluation is considered an asset.
- Sound working knowledge and understanding of the elderly.
