Job Summary

Down to Earth Geotechnical Engineering (Down to Earth) is currently recruiting geotechnical/environmental drill rig operators and drill rig operator assistants to join our growing team of knowledgeable and highly trained technical employees. Our team is skilled, experienced, safety-focused and committed to customer satisfaction.

Duties and Responsibilities
Safety is paramount in our business, and all employees must follow all established policies, procedures and best practices as well as the law at all times. As an employee, you must perform all your duties in a safe manor taking care of the equipment and co-workers that you work with. You will be responsible for the general condition and obtaining optimum life out of all site equipment and tools. If at any time you believe that a practice may be unsafe, you are to stop work and immediately and advise your supervisor. General duties and responsibilities are as follows:

- Using PPE and safe work practices
- Maintain and or assist in maintaining a safe work site
- Handling augers, rods, pipe, tooling
- Recovering soil samples
- Handling drilling materials, such as bentonite, sand, well pipe, etcetera
- Installing groundwater monitoring wells
- Driving mobile drilling equipment and light vehicles
- Floating and transporting drilling equipment
- Assist with preparing equipment for mobilization and demobilization
- Routine equipment maintenance, pre-start checks, refueling, lubrication and etcetera
- Maintain inventory and safe storage of equipment
- Travel to other areas outside of Sault Ste. Marie in Northern Ontario, and be able to work in a variety of settings and work site conditions
- On occasion, work evenings, weekends or out-of-town (as dictated by workloads)
- Other duties as required

Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive wages, which will be dependent on skill and experience. Overtime at 1.5 times regular pay and bonus pay.

Required Skills:
The preferred candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- AZ license and/or experience operating heavy equipment
- Required 1 to 5 years related experience
- Hard working, self-motivated and punctual
- Self-organizing and able to multi-task with a positive attitude with focus on safe work practices
- Basic mechanical skills and troubleshooting abilities, heavy equipment maintenance experience an asset.
- Possess a valid 'G' class driver's licence and have a good driving history (AZ/DZ and asset)
- Able to work on job sites outside for long periods
- Physically able to do the work
- Capable of repetitive movements, walking on slopes and uneven surfaces, lifting and loading equipment up to 90 pounds, with frequent bending over
- Enjoy working outdoors in variable weather conditions and work environments
- MOECC well technician license is preferred with Class 1, 2 or 3.
