The Ojibways of Batchewana First Nation (BFN) are a progressive and vibrant Indigenous community situated on the northeastern shore of Lake Superior adjacent to the City of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. The First Nation Is comprised of four land bases: Rankin, Goulais Bay, Obadjiwon, and Whitefish Island.

How We Operate
Batchewana First Nation is Governed by an elected Chief and Council and operates under a Senior Management team comprised of Program Directors and the Chief Executive Officer. Both Political and Administrative leadership value the efforts and hard work of the BFN workforce and foster an environment of collaboration and respect.

Position Summary
The Family Wellness Manager is responsible for operational oversight that supports BFN strategic direction, and development of capacity and programming within the Family Wellness department. The incumbent focuses on a wide range of prevention services and support programs for youth and families involved in or at risk of being involved in the Child Welfare system.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Leads the team through duties that include, maintaining regular contact and communication with Team Leads, establishing standards for performance and service delivery and conducting department meetings to ensure accountability, and quality program delivery.
- Creates and oversees implementation of program policies, procedures, practices and processes, in order to ensure high standards of service delivery, equitable access and community needs are met. Accomplishes this through duties such as keeping abreast of developments, best practices and consulting with internal and external service providers.
- Fosters healthy working relationships with external partners and other Child Welfare agencies through duties that include, regular meetings, reviewing and monitoring existing protocols and other service delivery agreements to remove any barriers to achieving optimal coordination of care.
- Reviews, aligns and updates current programming to mitigate risks to families through duties such as conducting analysis, understanding trends, keeping informed of potential issues and interpreting evidence-based data/reports that reveal community needs.
- Maintains ongoing communication with BFN leadership to develop collaborative relationships, align efforts and develop partnerships in the best interest of the children of BFN. Accomplishes this through duties such as, providing updates and status reports, implementing program adjustments and adopting the philosophy of Chief and Council into operational plans and protocols.
- Oversees submission of reporting to ensure funding sources are maintained. Accomplishes this through duties such as setting deadlines, ensuring that department staff understand their responsibilities, tracking and monitoring progress of the department in meeting all obligations.
- Participates in researching and securing available funding sources through duties such as written communication, networking and grant/proposal writing. Performs such duties to ensure that programs have the necessary resources to grow and develop as the needs of the children, families and community change.
- Maintains engagement with Legal Counsel to collaborate on high-risk client files and related family matters, ensure adherence to court processes and organize training. Performs these duties to ensure department practices are legally compliant and support BFN vision for the community.
Aligns department practices and protocols with BFN's inherent jurisdiction regarding child and family well-being in order to walk in step toward eventual self-governance/sovereignty. Accomplishes this through duties that include, maintaining awareness of legal developments and existing legislation, building foundational processes and structures that build toward jurisdiction objectives.
- Other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills:
-Post-secondary Degree in Social Sciences or related field
- 8 or more years working in a social service role
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working at a related leadership level preferably within an Indigenous organization
- Favorable Canadian Police Information Check (CPIC).
- Valid G Driver's License and/or access to a reliable vehicle.
- Travel Required
Requirements:
Comprehensive working knowledge of indigenous and Child Welfare related agencies, services and practices including: AIAI, Nogdawindamin, Mental -Health, Maamwesying, North Shore Community Health Services, Provincial Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and Federal Health Canada
- Familiar with Anishinabek culture, traditions, values, and the Seven Grandfather teachings.
- Knowledge of BFN service delivery, customs, and traditions as it relates to Child Welfare and Family Wellness
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and/or guidelines relating to the funding and delivery of child welfare prevention programs and services.
- Exceptional interpersonal, relationship, and leadership skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Superior time management and prioritization skills.
- Strong user level competency in computer software including Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong managerial and financial management skills.
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Ability to navigate requirements related to funding and reporting.
- Ability to work in team environment.
- Ability to manage sensitive information and uphold strict confidentiality for self and others.
- Exceptional planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Possess bicultural competencies and knowledge of traditional health practices, ceremonies, teachings, and protocols related to fostering community wellness
