Occupational Health & Safety and Risk Specialist - VACANT POSITION
Location: Head Office in Cutler, ON or Satellite Office in Sault Ste. Marie, ON
Full-Time Permanent
Salary: $57,795 - $71,081

We provide accessible, quality, culturally safe and holistic health care that supports and enhances the wellness of individuals, families, and communities. We work with our 11 First Nation community partners and one Indigenous Friendship Centre in the provision of primary health care, traditional healing, mental wellness and addictions, home and community support services and health promotion services. We have recently been approved as the first Indigenous led Ontario Health Team by the Ministry of Health.

The opportunity: Under the direction of the Director of Corporate Services and Operations, the Occupational Health & Safety and Risk Specialist is responsible for assisting with the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects of processes related to Occupational Health & Safety, patient relations, occurrences, patient safety, emergency measures, and risk management at Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services. This may include corresponding and meeting with patients and their families to resolve concerns, managing data including the collection, reporting and quality assurance of data related to patient relations, safety incidents, and legal claims, and acting as a resource and liaison for other staff within and outside of the Department.

The Occupational Health & Safety and Risk Specialist will draft policies and procedures to meet professional and accreditation standards while ensuring practices, programs and services are in alignment with the strategic planning and community development initiatives, policies and procedures federal and provincial policies, regulations, legislation, and funding arrangements.

Required Skills:
What you need to bring with you:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Formal education and/or training in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent experience
- Certified Health & Safety Professional e.g., ASP/CRST, CSP/CRSP®/PAAC®, or CHSC would be an asset
- Strong knowledge of the OHSA/OSHA and other related Health & Safety legislation
- Membership with related regulatory body, if applicable, in good standing
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience addressing client/patient/customer concerns in a health care environment and administration experience within a First Nation Organization
- Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs, and traditions
- Knowledge of external services and service agencies
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coach others
- Must possess excellent oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to promote teamwork
- Must be self-directed, resourceful and possess critical thinking skills
- Strong knowledge and proficient in the use of computers and various software applications, such as Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings
- A clear criminal reference check is a condition of employment
- Must possess a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
Requirements:
What to expect? Given the traditional practices of Indigenous people, from time-to-time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar may occur.
