COMMUNITY OUTREACH & ENGAGEMENT

LOCATION: Michipicoten First Nation
TERM: Permanent, Full-Time
WAGE RANGE: $26.33-$29.33/hr.

Michipicoten First Nation (MFN) is a vibrant Anishinaabe community located on the white sands (Northeast shores) of Lake Superior near Wawa Ontario. The registered population is approximately 1,400 with 70 citizens living on reserve. With a strong sense of community and cultural identity, Michipicoten First Nation strives to maintain harmony and balance with Mother Earth, neighbouring First Nations, and surrounding communities.

Michipicoten First Nation is seeking a full-time employee to manage Community Outreach & Engagement (CO&E). This role is responsible for fostering and maintaining relationships with the collective Michipicoten Community, sharing of information and ensuring the voice of the Community is heard. The CO&E position will be involved in outreach and engagement activities, planning and delivery of these events, sharing information on current and future projects, and encouraging the Community to participate in meetings, on Committees and volunteering for events for the Community.

This role will involve research on effective ways to reach the collective Michipicoten Community, transcending geographical, technological and accessibility boundaries. The CO&E is also responsible for managing and preserving genealogical records, assisting individuals in the Community in tracing their ancestry and providing back-up support to the Membership Clerk (Indian Records Administrator, or IRA).

Required Skills:
Education & Training
-Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Indigenous Studies, Communications, History, Library Science, or a related field is preferred.

Experience
-2 years experience in genealogical research or related field
-Previous experience with Public Relations
-Previous experience working with a First Nation Community, including experience coordinating projects or events for delivery to the collective Community

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-Highly proficient with MS office
-Strong research and analytical skills.
-Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups (Community, Committee, Council, Administration) and create a picture representative of the collective.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to adapt information to varying levels of comprehension and understanding.
-Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address issues effectively
-Proficiency in genealogical software and databases.
-Attention to detail and accuracy.
-Ability to handle sensitive and highly confidential information.
-Ability to adapt to different cultural contexts and work environments
-Ability to travel
-Deep understanding and respect for Anishinaabe culture and traditions

-Must possess a valid driver's license and own vehicle
-Satisfactory Driver's Abstract (if position offered)
-Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (if position offered)
