Family Wellness Worker
General Job Description:This position will form part of the Thessalon First Nation Prevention Programming team under the Child Welfare Model of Care. As part of the team the position will be responsible for developing and providing culturally appropriate, community based programming and services for children and their families of the Thessalon First Nation.

Job Status: Temporary Full Time

Reports to: Health and Social Services Director

Responsibilities:
-Reviewing the Family Well-being Program workplan and finalizing as required
-Network with the Thessalon First Natiion Health and Social Services, and more specifically the Child Welfare Team staff to gain insight and input into the final workplan for the Family Well-Being Project.
-Responsible for advertising of program and gathering community support for the project
-Will be responsible for the budget and finances associated with the project
-With the Child Welfare Team, will coordinate family wellness planning
-Develop and deliver workshops for community wellness including: Family violence impacts, healthy relationships, traditional teachings, etc.
-Must complete all documents required for the successful completion of the project such as attendance sheets, evaluations, etc.
-Will be responsible for initiating the Safe Home program under the Family Well-Being project.
-Encourage children and family involvement in activities.
-Responsible for all administration duties associated with the project.
-Must be willing to take training as required and/or requested
-Confidentiality is mandatory.
-Responsible for completion of month end reports and funding requirement reporting.
-Attend Child Welfare team meetings as required.
-Network with outside agencies as required, make referrals and conduct follow-ups as required.
-Other related duties as requested.

Working Condition:
Physical demands such as sports activities, etc. will require working in positions and under conditions that require the use of good body mechanics.
The standard number of hours per week is 37.5 hours/week. Flexibility of hours and days will be required such as days, evenings and weekends. Hours of operation will vary according to the scheduling of program activities.
Based on budget restraints no paid overtime can be approved. Instead, we offer the employee the flexibility of creating their own hours and any overtime is exchanged as time for time.

Working Relationships:
The Child Wellness Worker receives direction, guidance, encouragement on operational issues, discusses plans and priorities from the Health and Social Services Director and/or assigned designate.

Other Staff - promotes courtesy, co-operation and teamwork with all staff.
Public - represents and promotes the interest of the First Nation; works in a courteous, co-operative, positive and proactive manner and provides information.

Impact of Error
Errors in judgment and in the conduct of duties could lead to loss credibility, poor public relations, confusion, duplication of effort and misinformation being given to the Health and Social Services Director, First Nation Council, Government Agencies and public. Errors could result in legal liability and/or financial loss

Control:
Works within the administrative policies and procedures and guiding principles established by the Thessalon First Nation.

Required Skills:
-Must possess a College diploma or University degree within the Social Services Field.
-Should possess at least 2 years program planning experience and/or a combination of education and work experience with Aboriginal families.
-Must possess a valid driver's licence and have use of a reliable vehicle.
-Computer literate in the Word Perfect and Excel Programs.
-Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and practices.
-Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
-Possess computer skills
-Must be able to demonstrate initiative
-Able to work on own and as part of a team
