Position: Lands & Resources Manager
Starting Range: $38.80- $42.77 (Pending Education & Experience)
Location: Lands & Resources Department
Report to: CAO

The Manager, Lands and Environmental Resources Program is responsible for the management of programs that protect and sustain the lands throughout the territory. They will work with the CAO/Chief & Council to address gaps and the creation of applicable policies for ensuring the GRFN needs are met regarding effective resources management. The Manager will oversee and implement conservation and sustainability plans for the effective management of all-natural resources. The Manager, Lands and Resources functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Nation, and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

DUTIES
Responsible for the managing of all aspects of the various environmental compliance projects. Ensure that ecosystem services are protected and maintained for future human generations, and maintain ecosystem integrity through considering ethical, economic, and scientific (ecological) variables.
- Program management and coordination of development activities;
- Effectively interpreting, and implementing environmental policies and regulations;
- Planning and management of various lands containing natural resources;
- Negotiations of contracts with companies and other entities that may wish to use these lands;
- Conduct investigations and present results and recommendations;
- Develop new, innovative and sustainable solutions for environmental issues;
- Monitor and enforce compliance with resource usage regulations;
- Contribute to or manage natural resource consulting services and large environmental planning projects;
- Negotiate terms and conditions of use activities by applicants;
- Create and maintain systems to record all legal interests in GRFN lands;
- Supervise program budget to remain on target;
- Prepare and manage proposals, legal land descriptions and surveys for additions to reserve;
- Solicit funds from external agencies for relevant projects;
- Provide timely, complete and accurate expenditure reporting as required;
- Provides supervision and direction to support staff in the performance of their duties;
- Perform other duties as may be required or assigned

Required Skills:
- Required post-secondary degree in environmental sciences, life sciences, or related field;
- Required two years of supervisory experience;
- Proven experience with proposal research and development;
- Experience managing projects, personnel, and budgets in an efficient and professional manner;
- Proven knowledge of environmental systems, design, and implementation of programs;
- Required to wear construction gear and work around heavy machinery;
- Able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions;
- Ability to coordinate, mentor, develop and manage a team;
- Excellent organizational & time management skills, interpersonal and communication skills (Oral and written);
- Excellent computer skills for office related applications;
- Willing to travel; and must have a valid driver's license;
- Must undergo a criminal record check prior to employment (At Applicant Expense)
