Position: Assistant Operator (Power Engineer 4th class)
Location: Kapuskasing, ON

GreenFirst is looking for a 4th class Power Engineer to help support the boiler house and assist the Shift Engineer with the day-to-day
operation of the plant's steam, wood waste and effluent treatment systems.

Responsibilities:
- Performs testing on all boilers and condensate systems
- Assists with the operation of gas boilers # 4 & # 5
- Adjusts chemical feed rates to maintain residuals
- Visually checks equipment (fans, stokers, grates, dampers, valves, and controllers) on all levels of Steam Plant
- Blows down water columns and gauge glasses
- Monitors softeners for hardness and regenerates softeners when necessary
- Mixes and maintains caustic tank and feed rates
- Assists during plug-ups on wood waste system
- Assists Biomass Operator on loader at times
- Changes charts and performs data entry in computer
- Records any operational problems in the Assistant Operators log book
- Changes various filters around the plant (precip, degasifier, MCC room
- Assists in lockouts
- Assists with the chemical unloading including aqueous ammonia, lime, and phosphoric acid for WWTP
- Checks and starts up air compressors when required
- Performs duties as assigned by the Shift Engineer (assist in other mill areas)
- Takes steps needed to be taken in case of loss of a critical piece of equipment to ensure boilers stay operating
- Cleans up Rossing Plant Conveyor areas twice per shift unless otherwise directed by the Shift Engineer.
- Cleans up bridge conveyor every shift
- Ensures air hoses and wash up hoses are coiled up after use
- Washes operating floor in New boiler house
- Perform Assistant Operator duties when required
- Knows how to shut down, drain and lock-out each boiler and Combustor
- Support and assist any other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:
- Requires minimum of current valid 4th Class Power Engineer certification
- Requires considerable sensory attention and Regulatory Responsibility
- Requires excellent mathematical skills, verbal communication skills and mental reasoning skills
- Don PPE as required to work in hot and dirty environments and or chemical hazardous environments
