Position: Counsellor, Family and Adult Services Team (FAST)
Reports to: Clinical Manager
Location: Sault Ste. Marie Status: Temporary Full-Time
(12-months contract)
Hourly Rate: $31.11 - $37.99 Reference #: CCS-0425-03

JOB SUMMARY:
As part of the Family and Adult Services Team (FAST), the Counsellor will provide support for clients within the violence against women, probation and parole program, and the Partner Assault Response (PAR) program. The Counsellor will provide individual counselling and therapy as well as facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups for adults.

Required Skills:
MINIMUM EDUCATION/REGISTRATION
- Bachelor Degree of Social Work, Bachelor of Psychology or a degree in the Social Sciences accepted
- Current registration and in good standing with regulated professional college (RSW, RP) is required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- Two (2) years' clinical experience working in a related field preferred providing counselling or therapy to adults preferred
- Two (2) years' clinical experience facilitating psychoeducation groups to adults preferred
- Equivalent combinations of training and clinical experience may be considered

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience in providing clinical services to adults who are involved with the justice system.
- Trauma certification or experience providing trauma-based therapy.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues affecting women who have been impacted by intimate partner violence.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and safety planning.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practiced skills in providing culturally safe and responsive mental health services to clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds.
- High level of maturity and interpersonal skills, as well as demonstrated leadership qualities with competence in making and implementing decisions.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving skills and ability to write clear, concise reports.
- Ability to work cooperatively and negotiate effectively within an interdisciplinary team, across the agency, with collateral agencies/professionals including the medical community at both front-line and systems level.
- Thorough knowledge of community resources.
- Knowledge of pertinent legislation, such as, The Psychotherapy Act, The Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act.
- Proficiency with computers and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, and data MIS.
- Possession of a valid Ontario Driver's License (minimum of Class G if over the age of 19 and Class G2 license if 19 and under), ability to travel within the district of Algoma and use of a personal vehicle.
- Availability to work flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekends and on-call work may be required.
