We are seeking an experienced professional to lead the development, maintenance and execution of our well established programs in the areas of Human Resources and Health and Safety.

As Human Resources/Safety Officer, reporting directly to the President, you will work with the organizational leaders to manage the Employee Relations and Safety programs according to established policies and guidelines, business practices and our principles to create a positive work environment while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Responsibilities:
- Create and a comprehensive Employee Relations and Safety operations plan that minimizes organizational risk and maximizes business performance
- Lead the development, implementation and communication of relevant Employee Relations and Safety policies, procedures and systems which foster a culture of engagement and accountability
- Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of Employee Relations and Safety matters
- Monitor critical performance, absenteeism, safety, legal, disability, attrition, and other employee metrics and make data driven recommendations
- Provide interpretation of Employee Relations and Safety policies, practices and procedures to management
- Keep well-informed of provincial/territory employment and labour laws in order to be viewed as a trusted advisor to management, and ensure compliance with those laws
- Assist management in decision making and planning pertaining to performance, wage and staff development, recruitment and terminations
- Responsible for all aspects of the recruitment process and preparation of offers of employment
- Act as a resource to provide support to the Benefits, Pension and Payroll functions
- Coordinate company event planning and lead community events
- Manage STD and LTD claims in a confidential manner and work with managers on Return to Work programs where applicable
- Responsible for preparation and delivery of New Hire on-boarding and Safety orientations
- Act as the main Health and Safety resource across locations
- Establish and maintain a good working relationship with the Ministry of Labour, and Ministry of Transportation
- Oversee and manage Safety Program, internally and externally
- Conducts safety audit, prepares reports and makes recommendations to management
- Conduct Health and Safety meetings and provide training to team members
- Monitor workplaces and report on and/or provide recommendations regarding issues of non-compliance and potential risks
- Implement required education and training initiatives
- Investigate incidents and accidents, providing necessary documentation and corrective actions, including training
- Manage safety providers, trainers and suppliers, as required

Compétences requises:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, Business, or a related field CHRP is an asset
- Experience in Employee Relations and employment law matters
- In-depth knowledge of all current relevant labor and employment laws accompanied by the drive to keep up-to-date and understand future legislation
- Knowledge and previous experience with Employee Health Safety, including knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
- Experience in administration of Payroll, Benefits and Pension
-Experience in Retail, Building Supply, or Construction is preferred
- Experience in a unionized environment considered an asset
- Experience with managing and resolving conflict
- Strong HRIS and Microsoft Office computer skills
- Ability to exhibit confidentiality, integrity and approachability
- Exceptional ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization with tact, sensitivity, discretion and diplomacy using verbal and written skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize and work successfully independently and as part of a team
- Superior customer service skills
- High proficiency in HRIS programs and data entry skills with keen attention to detail
