Job Description:

What can I expect to do in this role?
In this position, you will help promote voluntary compliance with the Employment Standards Act, 2000 by:
• investigating complaints
• interviewing employees, employers and other parties by telephone
• sourcing and examining records and documents
• calculating and explaining employee entitlements
• preparing unresolved claims for further investigation

Required Skills:
How do I qualify?

Working With Legislation, Policies and Procedures:
• you have experience interpreting, explaining and applying or enforcing legislation
• you have experience analyzing and evaluating information and evidence to identify non-compliance with legislative requirements

Organizational, Planning, and Time Management skills
• you have the ability to work independently to complete or resolve work within the appropriate time frames
• you have experience in case, claim or client management to demonstrate ability to successfully manage competing priorities
• you have the ability to independently make decisions to resolve conflict and negotiate the resolution of issues

Communication skills:
• you have oral communication skills to interview parties over the telephone, present findings and explain decisions
• you have written communication skills to prepare notes, decisions and various other correspondence
• you have the ability to educate on compliance
• you have interpersonal skills to interact with businesses, employees and other relevant parties

Knowledge of Employment Standards Legislation and Related Regulations:
• you have knowledge of the Employment Standards Act 2000
• you have knowledge of other relevant provincial and federal legislation (e.g. Employment Protection for Foreign Nationals Act, Protecting Child Performers Act, Canada Labour Code, Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, etc.)

Other Important Skills:
• you are proficient with a variety of common office software (e.g. databases, word processing, spreadsheet, email, internet, etc.) and strong word processing skills
