Mental Wellness and Minobimaadizing Program is inviting applicants for a Training Specialist to work out of our head office located in Cutler, ON, under the direction of the Training Specialist Team Lead. The training specialist will assist with development, coordination, delivery of the programs, which include community-based Learning Circles for after-care support, and work closely with the families/children of the program. This is to offer support, client advocacy, referrals and shared-care services within an integrated disciplinary team to community members seeking and accessing Mental Wellness and Minobimaadizing Services. Working in collaboration with Nogdawindamin Child and Family Services to help identify physical, spiritual, emotional and mental needs under Jordan’s Principle.
Duties & Responsibilities:
•Create, develop and nurture culturally appropriate, safe interactions, and connections with each other, clients, /participants, children and the community.
•Willingness to complete the NN/NNPaCT and Care Team Training Programs.
•Provide teaching and training and facilitate NN/NNPaCT small groups, assist with Care Team responsivities and assist with the development & implementation of community level Learning Circles.
•Demonstrated skill in developing & maintaining successful working relationships with colleagues, clients and their families, internal & external partners and others.
•An acceptable Vulnerable Sector Criminal reference check is a condition of employment
•Must have a valid driver’s license
•Provide a safe driving record as demonstrated in a driver’s abstract and must have access to a personal vehicle
•Post-secondary diploma or degree in in social services, health, education or related profession preferred, with experience in program delivery, group facilitation, adult and child learning and training, or an equivalent combination of education or five years related experience.
•Completion of the Naandwe Noojimowin and NNPaCT Training an asset.
•Strong cultural awareness, empathy and understanding of a wide and diverse Aboriginal community and a strong commitment to cultural safety from a client perspective.
•Must be willing to work evenings, weekend and/or unplanned overtime.
Given the traditional practices of Aboriginal people, from time to time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar may occur.
