OVERVIEW
Reporting directly to Chief and Council, the Business Operations Director (BOD), participates in the development and execution of the business plan for identified business entities while providing guidance for action planning and implementation. The Business Operations Director (BOD) reviews operations ensuring implementation of strategies, programs and procedures. He / She will drive actions to achieve profit, revenue and assigned financial objectives. The BOD ensures an environment that promotes effective communications, positive associate relations and teamwork.

The Business Operations Director (BOD) functions within legislative requirements, regulations, policies and procedures and the Mission, Beliefs and Vision of the Garden River First Nation, and contributes to the accomplishment of the strategic priorities.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze current department practice, procedures, and plans to determine improvement of operations, taking into consideration, such areas as employee well-being, profitability and customer expectations
- Assist in developing strategies and implementation plans to improve and standardize all aspects of business operations
- Implement, manage and evaluate operation processes and procedures, in accordance with the standards and procedures set out by the organization
- Develop and implement strategies to improve asset management processes in the organization
- Provide leadership direction in asset management and expense control
- Evaluate the need for additional equipment and recommend equipment for purchase, including the preparation of capital expenditure justifications
- Prepare and manage the financial plan and actual expenses associated with this role
- Oversee the development of annual budget as it relates to production and its impact on the overall business plan this includes tracking, analyzing and reporting financial impact to the P & L on a monthly basis
- Ensure that operational processes stay within agreed upon budgets and timelines
- Manage the problem resolution process (identification, assignment of ownership, escalation, resolution and follow-up)
- Guide development and implementation of action plan
- Develop effective business relationship with new prospects, and maintain a cohesive information working relationship with departments and functions within the company
- Assist in reviewing proposals and other customer presentations
- Provide the leadership required for all assigned departments, assuring company objectives are met in the areas of cost, customer service, quality, profitability and employee well-being

Required Skills:

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Required University Degree in Accounting/Finance, Business Administration, or related area
- Preferred professional accounting designation such as CPA (CA, CGA, CMA)
- Required minimum of 5-7 years of progressive finance and project management experience
- Knowledge of business and management principles and practices
- Familiar with the relevant First Nation, federal and provincial policies and legislations regulations and/or guidelines that are relevant to the delivery of culturally sensitive services
- Ability to oversee the management of employees
- Inventory management and budget establishment and implementation
- Implementation and execution of customer satisfaction strategy
- Strong planning and analytical abilities, with excellent attention to detail
- Strong technical skills in excel, other Office related applications
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and take responsibility for timely and accurate completion of tasks.
- Must provide a clear CPIC prior to employment
